Ashland is the fastest-growing town in Boone County, sitting on Highway 63 about 20 minutes south of Columbia and 20 minutes north of Jefferson City. That growth is what drives most of our work there. Lots that had a farmhouse, a mobile home or a barn on them ten years ago are being cleared for new houses and subdivisions, and the old structures have to come off first. We are in Ashland and the surrounding county regularly; it is close enough to Columbia that it is practically a local job.

Demolition in Ashland

The typical Ashland teardown is a pre-development job: an older farmhouse or a mobile home on a parcel that has been sold to a builder, or a house on a large lot in town that is being replaced with something bigger. There are also barns and outbuildings on the acreages between Ashland and the river toward Hartsburg.

  • House and outbuilding teardowns with the foundation removed and the lot left ready for the builder's excavator
  • Mobile home removal on rural parcels and in town
  • Barn and shed demolition ahead of subdivision or new construction
  • Pool, deck and garage removal for homeowners who are staying put

A single-story frame house in Ashland is a two-day job start to finish once permits and disconnects are done, and the short haul back toward Columbia's landfill and recyclers keeps the disposal line low. Full list on the demolition page.

Concrete and parking lots in Ashland

Residential driveway replacement is the most common concrete job in Ashland: the town's 1990s and 2000s subdivisions poured a lot of 4-inch driveways on clay, and many of them have cracked and settled. We remove the old drive, prep the base, and our concrete crew pours the new one under our contract and warranty. Patios, walks, garage slabs and old farm slabs come under concrete removal. Churches, the school district and businesses along Highway 63 occasionally need parking lot removal, and asphalt replacement is available. We do not do concrete leveling or patch repair.

Permits and disconnects in Boone County

Inside Ashland city limits, demolition permits go through the City of Ashland. Outside the city, in the unincorporated southern part of the county around Hartsburg, Wilton and Guthrie, Boone County Resource Management issues the permit. Both will want utility disconnects documented before the permit is released.

The Missouri DNR asbestos inspection is required before demolition of most structures, statewide. Older farmhouses and mobile homes commonly have regulated material; if the inspection finds it, a licensed abatement contractor removes it and DNR gets a 10-working-day notification before we start. We coordinate the inspection, abatement and disconnects (electric, gas or propane, water or well, sewer or septic). We do not perform abatement.

How pricing works

Fixed price for mobilization, equipment and crew. Disposal billed as a pass-through at actual loads and tonnage, $40 to $90 per ton. Ashland is close enough to Columbia that mobilization costs about what it does at home, and small jobs price about the same as they would in town. A site visit gives you the firm number.

Process

  • Site visit, often within a couple of days
  • Written proposal with fixed price and estimated tonnage
  • Permit, DNR inspection, abatement if required, disconnects coordinated
  • Teardown and hauling
  • Foundation out, lot backfilled and rough graded for the builder

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge extra to come to Ashland?

No. Ashland is 20 minutes from our yard, and mobilization is inside the fixed price at that distance the same as it is in Columbia. Small jobs, big jobs, no difference; the per-square-foot price in Ashland is about what it is in town. The only time distance matters on a bid is for towns 40 minutes out, and Ashland is not one of them.

Who issues demolition permits in Ashland?

The City of Ashland inside city limits. Outside the city, in the rural part of southern Boone County, Boone County Resource Management. Both require documented utility disconnects, and Missouri DNR requires an asbestos inspection before most demolitions. We handle the coordination on every job.

Can you clear an old house off a lot before the builder starts?

Yes, that is the most common Ashland job. The house and foundation come out, the hole is backfilled and compacted, and the lot is rough graded so the builder's excavator can start on the new footings without dealing with anything we left behind. We coordinate timing with the builder so there is no gap between our work and theirs.
